“Toyota Resale Value, Reputation Fall” – AP

9 02 2010

Toyota’s Losing Value

KBB, the industry standard for vehicle value, has been liking Toyota’s less and less by the day. As resale values fall there is no end in sight as slow responses to safety questions and the recalls continue. Loyalty to the brand is becoming scarce. Prices are dropping all around the country. Toyota vehicles aren’t being bid on at the auction. A reputation for quality is becoming overshadowed by manufacturing blunders. When the used car market takes away the once good resale value of Toyota will the company have anything left to campaign on? In the wake of this worldwide company’s disaster are the people who sell, service and own Toyota’s. The vehicles they bought are worth less and less everyday and the slide is expected to continue. Sales for Toyota have dropped an astronomical amount since the recalls. With more and more time passing and no new answers being revealed the confusion looks to take Toyota deeper into their hole.

Honda Eyes the Prize

“Honda Hoists Profit Forecast”

-AutoNews.com

During a time of economic turmoil and unbalance, especially in the automotive industry, Honda is looking to the future with more than hope. Honda announces that this coming fiscal year it expects a 69% jump in profits. This is far beyond market expectations. The last three quarters have been a great upturn for Honda and they expect that to continue.

“Under these sales conditions, I see a fundamental ability to make 100 billion yen in operating profit every quarter.” said Executive Vice President Koichi Kondo.

With Toyota’s problems piling up and Honda looking forward to the future there really is no safer automobile investment, for your money, than in the the vehicles that lead the world in resale value, safety and quality.

Toyota Dependability in Question

Camry 2007-2010, Corolla 2009-2010, Highlander 2010, Matrix 2009-2010, Avalon 2005-2010, RAV4 2009-2010, Sequoia, Tundra- These eight models make up two thirds of Toyota’s U.S. auto sales. Every last one of them will be pulled from the market.

These models of vehicles are a danger to the public. They are being recalled because of the possibility that the throttle could stick open. So, Toyota begins their massive recall and and search for a remedy. The company had previously said a solution to the problem could take weeks to produce but gave no indication of a time frame during the day they began to quit selling the new and used cars on the list. USA today reports a senior auto analyst at industry tracker Edmunds.com says that “This is Major, The Eight vehicles involved make up about two-thirds of Toyota brand sales in the U.S.

A large step like this could mean that the problems Toyota is experiencing are nothing short of major and that their fixing of the problem will take a longer and more involved effort than they had previously thought. If you can recall Toyota and Lexus vehicles numbering 4.2 million were recalled due to a similar problem where the gas pedal could get jammed open by the floor mats that they were installing. As serious as they are about the recall of all these vehicles it must leave the consumer to wonder what’s next in the line of tragic mistakes by the Automaker.

Damaged by this news are the Car Dealerships that sell Toyota. They are not allowed to sell these models adding up to about 55% of the Car inventory Nationwide. The next few weeks are expected to be very slow for the Toyota Dealers across the country as they will have to combat both, not being able to sell some vehicles and the fears of the consumer that their safety could be in jeopardy if they buy the vehicle.

The voice from the rest of the Auto Industry has been heard on this issue and rising sales of competitive models from all automakers are expected. Honda is one such brand that has been an industry leader in reliability and safety.

The General Manager, Bill Ingram, of the number 1 Honda dealer in Pa in “comp” sales for 2009 was asked what opportunities this affords his dealership and the Honda franchise. He said “This reinforces the strength of the Honda brand and the quality of the engineering and manufacturing. Again showing Honda is 2nd to none in the automotive business.

We see it each day…Honda has the big 4:

Tops in safety ratings,
Low maintenance and operating costs,
a fuel efficient lineup,
and the highest in resale and residual values.

Honda customers love their Honda’s! “

Thomas Honda and Team Chevrolet Merge!

2 12 2009

Thomas Honda and Team Chevrolet are merging their dealership operations to form a new dealership, Thomas Team Honda.  Thomas Honda will relocate from Bantley place in Windber to 1920 Bedford Street in Johnstown, PA, to the current Team Chevrolet location.  The announcement was made today by Thomas Dealerships proprietors Mark Thomas and William Ingram along with John McGregor, Willard Campbell and Donald Devorris, of Team Dealerships.

This merger will create the largest auto agency in the area for New and Pre-owned Sales, Service and Parts. A ten to twenty percent increase in employment is expected over the next two years.

“We are thrilled to enter a partnership with another exemplary dealer,” said Mark Thomas of Thomas Dealerships. “The job creation and extended line of provided services will be a benefit to the entire community.”

The current dealership will undergo a minor renovation to create a brand new state of the art Honda Facility.  The new facility is 25,000 square feet and sits on 6 acres with capacity for more than 500 new and pre-owned vehicles. In addition to the innovative redesign, the location provides easy access for customers to Richland and Route 219, downtown Johnstown and surrounding areas.   The merger will also create a significant network of more than 1,000 pre-owned vehicles from which customers can choose.

While new Chevrolets will no longer be sold at this location, all extended service contracts, regular service maintenance and repairs, on all makes and models will continue at the Bedford Street location, by the same expert technicians. All vehicle service work can be scheduled through this location. All GM warranty work will be performed at one of the several Thomas or Team GM Dealerships. It is anticipated that the new Thomas Team Honda will open sometime after the first of the year..

Honda vehicles have consistently received top automotive industry awards for vehicle safety, high resale values, low maintenance costs, and excellent fuel efficiency.  Both dealerships have continuously embraced these standards and will continue to do so in their new joint venture.
